Moonsong- Listening to the Feminine

So blessed to sit in circle today with 20 women at RAW Gardens, to celebrate International Red Tent Day. Such gratitude to feel the magic of the circle, the healing that comes with showing up, with sharing and with listening with the ears of our heart to our sisters speak… It is time to find our voices, our truths, and to listen willingly and openly…it is time for our families, communities and the world to hear the voices of women, to let the feminine speak in her myriad voices of her truth. Not the truth of a world/cultures which denigrates women, the body, the earth, life/death/life but the truth that comes from deep within, a truth that is rooted in the earth, in her and our bodies. Our lived experience.

The redtent3time is now, so find your way to love yourself enough, to honour yourself enough to reach out to support other women, and to hear their stories, their songs, their poems, their tongues, their carvings, engravings, weaving….find women, listen and be listened too. Such healing arises when we feel we can be really heard. When we listen to ourselves, and give ourselves the space to acknowledge, to heal, to be.

I am blessed to have such a group of dear women around me, my family, my friends, my mermaid sisters, my teachers…and all those who came today, and who come to the call of the feminine….If you feel a desire to go deeper in this work, then i encourage you to find a red tent near you. There is a revolution and they are springing up everywhere..You might also consider a year long dive into the feminine mysteries with the School of Shamanic Womancraft. This was and still is such a profound journey or healing for me, and those who i have journeyed with. It is MAGIC!!! And if you want a taster of this work, I am also hosting a day, to explore the treasure map of our blood mysteries, our feminine mysteries, with Moonsong.

Dark Words

Last session in the Temple of She! we dived into the murky depths of the dark. We visited with the crone, the hag, the Dark Goddess. And as the temple dancers lay cushioned on the ground, i read them some words. I let the words woo them into the mystery and divinity of the dark…I let the words out to weave their magic….So it is with much gratitude that i share the words of three amazing women with you…these are just snippets, fragments from the richness of their worlds, go and get the books and read the rest yourself….

excerpts From La Loba, in Women who run with the Wolves,  Clarissa Pinkola Estes,

“The sole work of la loba is the collection of bones. She is known to collect and preserve especially that which is in danger of being lost to the wordl. Her cave is filled with the bones of all manner of desert creatures, the deer, the rattlesnake, the crow. But her specialty is said to be wolves….

wildwomenShe creeps and crawls and sifts thought the montanas, mountains and arroyos, dry river beds, looking for wolf bones, and when she has assembled an entire skeleton, when the last bone is in place and the beautiful while sculpture of the creature is laid out before her, she sits by the fire and thinks about what song she will sing.

And when she is sure, she stands over the criatura, raises her arms over it and sings out…That is when the rib bones and leg bones of the the wolf begin to flesh out and the creature becomes furred.”

Excerpt from Kissing the Hag, Emma Restall Orr

“Hag is not a nice word.

Yet there comes a time in every woman’s life when nice is tedious, when nice is insipid, seeping into the soul like souring milk, warping the mind. Indeed nice can at times, be all that is offensive.

kissingthehagHag, its a fascinating word. As I speak it aloud the sound as smooth as an out breath, Aspirated its vowel is extended and then clipped as if with a warning kick of death. It is a primal work, formed with barely any effort required. It whispers of cold wind, of thick fog and the stench of stagnant water. It is word robed in spider’s webs, dusty and worn, unsure where to place itself on the shiny veneers of today. Lingering st the edges of life, it waits to tun a broken nail down some blackboard of the soul.

No hag is not a nice word. Like princess or pole dancer the word quietly slips us a picture, and though for each of the image may differ slightly , it invariably embodies all that is declared to be simply and irrefutably not nice in a woman.”

From Jane Meredith, Diving Deep Listening to the Dark Goddess

Do you hear that faint voice calling to you from within, from your dreams, or from underneath your daily life….do you sense something almost beyond the range of your sensing. Do you dare to leave your safety and set out to investigate?

There are many ways the Dark Goddess calls to us. When we sense something missing form our lives, though we have no idea what that might be.. When we have everything that should make us happy, but we are not happy. When we are struck by depression ir inexplicable illness or doubt; when we sense ourselves becoming more and more isolated or fragmented or pressured…. When we long for death, or change, or oblivion. When we meet that same, familiar set of problems yet again but have no idea what we could do to change it. When we fee; we are yearning for the impossible, or we wont let ourselves yearn, when we long for change but fear it.

lilithShe will be there, calling to you. The question is, will you listen…

Our next gathering will also invite the Dark Goddess. We will journey together in the week of the Winter Solstice and we welcome the Hag/the Crone/The Wierd Sister/  Do yo welcome her too?

Blessings Sarah

on the dark….

dark moon

The dark and new moons are nearly upon us, and this gives us time to reflect on the importance of these moon phases. The dark moon is a time of release, of letting go. It is a death of sorts, the kind of death that is necessary to make way for the new. So at the dark moon we can release all that no longer serves.  Now is a good time to think about issues that have been arising that are no longer useful. This might be ideas or ways of being that don’t serve your higher purpose.

Sometimes it can be difficult to look at these aspects but with the dark and new moon in Scorpio we are more equipped to look into the dark aspects of the self. And with a solar eclipse heading our way there will be greater finality to all that we let go of, and then all that we birth. It is a great time to begin tuning into the moon, and using the energy of the cycles.

So find some time to dance, to meditate, to turn within and see what arises. Ask your body, show me what you are feeling, and follow the body where it leads. For those of you about to bleed, or in weeks 3-4 of your cycle, these issues might be more self- evident. Remember to look for the patterns behind what is troubling you, where have you noticed this before?  How does it relate to deep issues of identity and your truth?  Notice what you notice, and wateronearthrelease what needs to be released.

As ever be gentle with yourself through all this. According to Cathy Pagano, (from the Mystic Mumma site) Neptune in Pisces will support compassionate release.  So go for it.

Having released with the dark moon, we can then focus on what we want to birth with the new moon. Feel into what is arising within you? What is waiting to be born? Again dance and move freely, allowing your body to guide you, to show you what you are feeling. The wisdom of your body is immense. Your bodies intelleignce relates to the earth’s intelligence, so don’t underestimate it. Instead make use of the new moon in scorpio to see the truth of your bodies wisdom, to tune into that which wants to arise in you.

You may want to lie on the earth, and do some grounding work. Those of you who have danced with me, will know how often I ask you to surrender fully to the earth, feel how she IMG_5531holds and nurtures you, and then from this deep place of trust and surrender rise up with that which is emerging in you. Use the lunar cycle to birth this new seed within you, or to allow a bud to flourish more fully.

Reading all about this moon makes me wish I had organised a dance with you all, but i have needed to settle into a new routine, to have space for the new work i am doing with children. So instead I will celebrate the dark moon at Red Tent East , and dance my prayers in the garden on Friday night.  For my work, my truth is deepening my connection to mother earth, to trusting Her, trusting the cycles, and trusting that the Feminine is returning.  My work is to let go of that which hinders my ability to do this, and so I will use the new moon in Scorpio to give great thanks for the opportunities I have to work with children and women. I will give great thanks that we all can deepen our bonds with the the earth, that we can open our hearts and minds to the wisdom of the body & the sacredness of She.

Blessings on this beautiful dark and new moon xx
