Birth your own medicine drum in our Shamanic Medicine Drum Making Workshops. The drum echoes the heartbeat of the Earth and enables us to connect with the sacred rhythms of life. Drumming is known to boost your immune system, and can be used to calm and center you. It has a pan cultural history as a sacred tool in women’s spirituality and religious life. Layne Redmonds powerful book When the Drummers Were Women documents women’s history with drumming across the Middle East, and Europe. Max Dashu’s work documents the use of the drum throughout Asia, the America’s, Africa and Europe.
The frame drum is a shamanic tool used for general well being – for meditation, for ritual, ceremony and for journeying. It is a musical instrument and used for dance, for joy and for deep connection.

When the Drummers Were Women
The medicine drum is an ancient tool for healing and transformation. In her book, When the Drummers Were Women, Layne Redmond traces the history of the drum, acknowledging the importance of this tool in women’s ceremonies, rites of passages and spiritual experiences across the globe.
There is a renewed interest in the frame drum and the reclamation of the drum as a sacred tool of power for women. Want to know more? Contact Sarah with your inquiries.
Medicine Drum Workshops
Making a frame drum is a deep and powerful process of birthing a shamanic healing tool for personal transformation. When you make a drum you enter into a shamanic process of personal healing.
Sarah hosts drum making workshops alone and with Emilie Alciato. Check out the information below and go to the shop for more details and booking into upcoming workshops.

The next Four Seasons Journey begins February 2024. At our Opening Gathering you birth a drum into the world and yourself as drummer. At each of the next five gatherings we drum together by the fire, singing songs, dancing and deeply connecting to the earth, the feminine and our selves. This is a year long program, an immersion in the women’s mysteries. Join us!
You can choose to make your drum in the garden, in a private room or in the communal space.
Drum Journeys
In a drum session, Sarah sets up a sacred space and offers you the opportunity to tap into the reservoirs of your deep embodied wisdom as you journey to the beat of the drum. She facilitates the drum journey & the sharing and reflection of the information, and messages you access. You can also travel with the drum, much like a guided meditation or visualization- to the deep pools of wisdom within and without.
Sarah offers drum journeys to all women. You can journey with a specific aim, such as meeting with your power animal, healing messages, to connect with your baby or you may journey to be open to whatever messages are held for you.
One on One sessions are available with Sarah
1 hour session costs $120
1.5 hour session costs $160
Initial session is 1.5 hours.
Contact Sarah for all bookings and inquiries.

Hi,
I am wondering if it is possible for you to run a drum making workshop in Ballarat-I moved here recently and have been wanting to make a drum for quite a while but never got around to doing it. If l organised a group of people, what would be the minimum number needed? If you are unable to, do you have any recommendations of other people who could facilitate one in Ballarat?
Many thanks
Katherine

I just completed this workshop and I truly don’t think I can write in words the full experience.
Sarah and Emilie held space and supported all the women through our births. It was magical to connect with like minded women, exploring our birth stories alongside one another. The ritual of choosing a Hyde and laying it in the water over night, the meditations, the birthing process are all memories which will be stored in my heart forever. Thank you so much Sarah and Emilie for holding this space. I will be beating my drum this Sunday reconnecting with my motherline and all the women who came before me and played their drums.

Medicine drum workshop: I also completed this workshop alongside my fellow companion Danyelle. Thank you to all the women for witnessing and holding the space for each other with compassion and truth. I honor all of you. This experience has deeply impacted me and my reflection on my lineage and my mother. I am grateful for Sarah and Emilie’s generosity, openness, truth, and warmth. I felt very safe and accepted. The process of making a drum is a deep ceremonial space to connect to deeper self and to our most profound right of connection to mother, earth, and the cycles and web of life. I have no words to describe what a simple and raw ceremony can offer you in your journey, your inner connection and your creative life. Highly recommended. A poem to share. Trust yourself.
Trust in the Soil by Quinn Bailey
All growth starts in the dark.
So often, desperate for any sign
Of life,
We uncover too soon that which needs
To stay buried.
A good gardener knows all things seek the light
In their own time.
A good gardener knows how to trust in the soil.
